Island Women is a diverse group of women with many talents and resources who, through community action, enhance the quality of life on Pleasure Island for residents and guests. Initially organized by a group of local women business owners and retail employees to help revitalization efforts and support women business owners on Pleasure Island. We obtained 501(c)3 designation in 2008 and today our membership is almost 300 women strong, and our mission has expanded to:
  • To support community outreach programs to provide a safe and healthy environment.
  • To nurture education and literacy.
  • To encourage and mentor women.
  • To contribute to environmental improvements that enhance public spaces.
  • To raisefunds to support the mission of Island Women.

Our motto is “Invite, Include, Inspire”. We offer women the opportunity to become connected, involved and engaged through our volunteer efforts and social activities.

Our work focuses on the following areas -

  1. Community Outreach:We partner with local NGOs, schools, and the communities of Carolina and Kure Beaches to benefit those who work and play on Pleasure Island.
  1. Education, Support and Mentoring: We work with the community and in the schools to provide opportunities for education and literacy initiatives.
  2. Membership Betterment and Support:  We strengthen the social fabric of the women of IW by promoting cultural, educational and social activities.
  3. Fundraising: Fundraising activities play a vital role in our organization as it supports our work on Pleasure Island and provides opportunities for volunteers to connect and make a positive impact on our community
